At its opening ceremony thousands of sightseers flowed into Germany’s longest motorway tunnel (7.9 km), the Rennsteig tunnel in Thuringia. The building, which was opened on Saturday July 5th, 2003 by Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, is considered as the world’s safest tunnel – it is equipped with the intelligent linear fire detection system FibroLaser II®.
